Description
It's time for my third and final jump. I take a deep breath and take my first step towards the fire. This time I jump a little higher, the heat of the fire seeping into my body through the shortness of my black pants that leave my ankles exposed... Jumping from the Fire consists of two long stories. These two stories share common themes such as lives that don't fit into small spaces, uncontrollable emotions that get out of hand, the feeling of being stuck, the urge to transcend oneself despite one's fears, and even the state of overflow. In both, the protagonists are forced to face a difficult test; they are pushed to take a stand against the limits imposed by their immediate surroundings, society and their own anxieties. While the narrator of the eponymous story "Jumping from the Fire" can no longer carry her only secret inside her, the protagonist of "A More Favorable Fate" confronts her own destructive emotions and the regret that follows. In Jumping from the Fire, Fatma Nur Kaptanoğlu focuses on the tests we all have to take sooner or later in this life, the borders we have to cross and what we leave behind as we move on to the future.
