Description
This artist book was published as part of Jennifer İpekel's exhibition Mother, Rebellion! at Dirimart between May 26-July 18, 2021. Each book is bound using a different handmade paper and hand-sewn, stamped and numbered by the artist with stamps made from the motifs in her works. Featuring text fragments and poems by Sevim Burak, Gary Snyder, Pietro Antonio Michiel, Henry David Thoreau, William Blake, Robert Aitken, Dale Pendell, a musical score from ancient Babylon, Myrmecophila from the Monica Urquijoz collection, Vladimir Nabokov's painting of a copy of Franz Kafka, The Transformation, an Esther Planas painting, and four Ipekel paintings attached in postcard format, the book is the collective work of six women. Mother, Rebellion! is a sprout, rooted in the Earth, with the idea of animism in the back of its mind, calling sleeping souls to listen to the sounds it emits, asking them how the Earth dreams of us.
